Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. MHACY’s public housing portfolio includes eighteen public housing properties, which provide housing in a variety of sizes and types, from townhouses to high rise apartment buildings. Some of its properties are designated as Senior/Disabled housing, while others are designated for families. To identify the location of MHACY’s public housing sites and rent offices, see the map below.
Most of MHACY’s public housing developments are over forty years old, and all are in need of capital improvements. As a result, the Board of Commissioners has determined to participate in a HUD initiative called the Rental Assistance Demonstration (“RAD”) which will allow the Authority to ensure the long term quality, viability and sustainability of its housing stock.
